Dad says he doesn’t need anything? Then give him everyone. His kids, his friends, his old teammates and coworkers each add a photo with him and a few words, and the photos become one professionally made video. Watch our real example above.

Everyone adds photos

What happens when everyone sends a photo with Dad?

Dad sees his own story told by the people who were there. Picture the party: the lights go down, and one photo after another appears on the TV, each with a few words and a small round portrait of the person who sent it. The first job, the old car, the trip nobody forgot.

  • On the TV at the party
  • Family and old friends
  • Dad’s birthday

These frames come from our example, a surprise for a mother’s 65th birthday. Eight people from three countries sent 19 photos in two days, and nobody recorded a video.

Who has the photos of Dad that nobody at home has seen?

His friends. Old teammates, college friends, coworkers, neighbors and the people he plays or builds things with. They were there for the stories the family only knows by heart, and they usually have the photos to prove it.

  • grandchildren
  • friends
  • cousins
  • college friends
  • neighbors
  • in-laws
  • brothers and sisters
  • coworkers
  • old bandmates
  • godchildren
  • former bosses
  • childhood friends
  • teammates
  • nieces and nephews
  • hobby friends
  • family friends
  • kids
  • old classmates

After adding a photo, each guest is asked who else should be in the video, so his friends bring their own friends. You only start the chain.

Happy tears for everybody, memories forever.

What if Dad isn’t the sentimental type?

Then keep it light. A funny old photo with a short line works as well as a heartfelt one, and the small round portrait shows exactly who is teasing him. The mix is what makes people laugh and then go quiet at the last frame.

A frame from the example video with three marks: the old family portrait of a woman, a small boy and a man, the message “And here I am!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Leo”.
  1. A photo from the sender’s archive. Funny or serious, it is a moment only that person kept.
  2. A round portrait. It shows who sent the photo, so Dad knows who to thank, or who to tease back.
  3. A few words. Up to 40 characters. Short lines land best.

Lines that fit the 40-character limit:

  • “Love you, Dad!”

  • “Nice haircut, Dad!”

  • “You taught me to drive. Sorry!”

  • “Still the funniest guy I know.”

  • “Happy birthday, coach!”

  • “Thank you for every ride.”

More lines for Dad are in What to write in a group video message.

Is there a version for phones, to send to his friends?

Yes. You get two videos from the same photos: 16:9 for the TV at the party and 9:16 for phones. Both are made at the same time and included in one price, so Dad can show the phone version to anyone who missed the party.

  • 16:9 for the TV. Play it at the party, on a wide screen.
  • 9:16 for phones. It fills a phone screen. Send it to his friends after the party.
  • One price for both. The same photos, messages and music in both videos.

The app writes the invitation for you, with the name you enter:

  • Hi! 🎁 I’m making a surprise video for Dad from everyone’s photos, and I’d love you to be in it. Could you add photos with Dad (and a short line for each), ideally today? Just photos: no selfie video, no sign-up, about a minute. Know anyone else who should be in it? Pass the link on. Shh, it’s a secret!

How early should you start?

About a week before his birthday. His friends and coworkers are not in the family chat, so the link takes a day or two longer to reach them. The video is built in up to 10 hours after you press “Make the video”, and if it is not ready within 20 hours, you can cancel the order.

How much does it cost?

$49 for up to 30 photos, or $39 for up to 15, paid once. Starting and watching the preview are free, with no upfront payment. Both versions and the music are included. Anyone who has the gift link can pay, so the kids can split it: four people sharing $49 pay about $12 each.

Frequently asked questions
