What do you give a colleague who is leaving or retiring? A video made of photos from the whole team. Each person adds a photo with them and a few words, and the photos become one professionally made video. The one above is a finished example, made for a mother’s 65th birthday. The design is the same for a farewell.

A frame from the example video: an old color photo of four adults and three children standing in front of a mountain stadium, the message “Remember how young we were...”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Anna”.

What happens when the whole team sends a photo for a farewell?

Your colleague sees years of work on one screen, and sees who remembered each moment. Picture the last day: the team gathers in the office or on a call, and the video starts. Team photos, trips and ordinary days appear one after another, each with a few words and a round portrait of the sender.

  • On the last day
  • The whole team
  • In the office or on a call
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old color photo of adults and children standing in front of a mountain stadium, the message “Remember how young we were...”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Anna”.
    Remember how young we were...Anna
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old black-and-white photo of a family group on a hillside, with two children and a baby, the message “Congrats! Miss you!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Emma”.
    Congrats! Miss you!Emma
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old black-and-white photo of a young woman in a dark coat, the message “Your college days, Mom”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Alex”.
    Your college days, MomAlex
  • A vertical frame from the example video: a smiling woman in a pink blouse holding a baby in a red Santa suit, the message “Your newest love!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Tim”.
    Your newest love!Tim

In our example, made for a mother’s birthday, 8 people from 3 countries sent 19 photos in two days. Each photo came with a small round portrait, so she knew at once who sent it. She watched it at home with her family and almost cried.

A farewell works the same way: the team from the first project, the boss, the friends from other offices, all in one video. Nobody has to record anything or join a call at the same hour.

Happy tears for everybody, memories forever.

Why does a video from the team feel better than a shop-bought farewell gift?

Because every photo is a person saying “I remember our time together”. A mug or a bottle is used up and forgotten. A video made of photos from the whole team can be watched again and again, and each photo shows who remembered that moment.

A frame from the example video with three marks: the old photo of four adults and three children, the message “Remember how young we were...”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Anna”.
  1. A photo from the sender’s own archive. Each colleague finds one that only they have.
  2. A round portrait. It shows who the photo is from, so your colleague knows whose memory it is.
  3. A few words. Up to 40 characters: one clear thank-you or memory.

The first project. The offsite. The Monday coffees. Each photo is a moment that only one person kept. That is why a farewell turns into a day of memories, smiles and a few happy tears.

Is there a version for phones and the team chat too?

Yes. You get two videos made at the same time from the same photos: a horizontal 16:9 video for the meeting screen and a vertical 9:16 video for phones and social media. Both are included in the price, so you do not choose one or pay twice.

  • 16:9 for the meeting screen. Play it on a call or at the party, on a wide screen without black bars.
  • 9:16 for phones and team chats. It fills a phone screen from edge to edge. Send it in the team chat.
  • Made at the same time. The same photos, messages and music, and a designed frame for every photo.

  • interns
  • new hires
  • trainees

Send a link

Will busy coworkers really do it? Isn’t it a lot to ask?

No. Each person needs a minute or two: open the link, choose one or two photos with the colleague and write a few words. There are no selfie videos, no sign-up, no app and no call to join. People add a photo whenever it suits them, in any time zone.

  1. Step 1Open the link.
  2. Step 2Choose one or two photos with the colleague.
  3. Step 3Write a few words and add your portrait. Done.
  • No sign-up
  • No app

Asking busy people to record a video means finding a quiet room and looking into a camera, so many put it off. A photo takes a minute, even between meetings.

You do not have to chase everyone. The app writes the invitation for you, and after adding a photo each person is asked who else should be in the video. So the link spreads on its own.

The practical part

How it works, what you get, how long it takes, what it cannot do and what it costs.

What are the key facts about the video?

You get two videos from the same photos: 16:9 for the meeting screen and 9:16 for phones. A video needs 10 to 30 photos in total and is built in up to 10 hours. It costs $39 for up to 15 photos or $49 for up to 30, and watching the preview is free.

  • 10–30Photosin total. Every person can add several.
  • NoneAccountsfor coworkers. Only the organizer signs in.
  • AnyTime zoneseveryone adds a photo whenever it suits them.
  • up to 10 hBuild timeafter you press “Make the video”.

How do you make the video? Three steps for the organizer

You add a few photos, send one invitation link and press “Make the video”. You need at least 10 photos in total. The video is ready in up to 10 hours, you watch the free preview, and you pay once, after it.

  1. Step 1Add a few photosTap to upload your own photos with the colleague. Add a short line under each, up to 40 characters.
  2. Step 2Send one linkTap “Invite everyone” and send the ready message in a private channel that the colleague is not in.
  3. Step 3Press “Make the video”It needs 10 photos in all. Watch the free preview, change anything, pay once.

The app writes the invitation for you, with the name you enter. You sign in with Google or email once, when you invite others. Send the message as it is or edit it. For a colleague named Sam it reads like this:

  • Hi! 🎁 I’m making a surprise video for Sam from everyone’s photos, and I’d love you to be in it. Could you add photos with Sam (and a short line for each), ideally today? Just photos: no selfie video, no sign-up, about a minute. Know anyone else who should be in it? Pass the link on. Shh, it’s a secret!

Which photos should you ask for, and what should coworkers write?

Ask each person for one or two photos with the colleague, plus one concrete thank-you or memory in up to 40 characters. Team events, trips and ordinary days work best. People enjoy seeing how the team looked years ago, so ask for the oldest photo each person has.

  • Team events

Offsites, parties, trips and holiday dinners where the colleague is in the picture.

  • Old photos

Photos from the first years show how long the colleague has been part of the team.

  • Only what people are happy to share

Ask people to send only photos they are comfortable sharing, and avoid screenshots of confidential work.

How do you collect photos from coworkers in different offices?

Post the link in a private channel that the colleague is not part of, and ask for something small: “One or two photos with Sam from your own archive, and a few words.” Send one friendly reminder in the same channel the day before your deadline. Then press “Make the video”: you decide when, and it is built in up to 10 hours.

What should coworkers write under their photo?

One concrete thank-you or memory in a few words, up to 40 characters. The line sits on the photo, so short is the point. Keep it warm and keep jokes kind.

  • “Thanks for the Monday coffees.”

  • “You taught me how to run a meeting.”

  • “The offsite we will never forget.”

  • “You will be missed. A lot.”

  • “Good luck on the next adventure!”

  • “Thank you for 20 great years.”

  • “Enjoy every minute of retirement!”

  • “Time to travel. You earned it!”

More examples for coworkers, bosses and teachers are in What to write in a group video message.

How early should you start?

Start about a week before the farewell, and no later than four days before. Most of the time goes to people replying. The video itself is built in up to 10 hours after you press “Make the video”, and you can preview and fix it before you pay.

  1. 7 days beforeAdd your photos, get the link and post it in the team channel.
  2. 5 days beforeSend one reminder.
  3. 3 days beforePress “Make the video”. It takes up to 10 hours.
  4. 2 days beforeWatch the preview, fix anything, pay if you like it.
  5. Farewell dayShow it on the call or at the party.

If the video is not ready within 20 hours, you can cancel the order and go back to editing.

What can FromAll.gift not do for a team?

FromAll.gift does not record voices or clips, and it holds up to 30 photos and up to 3 minutes. If your team wants spoken messages, choose a clip-based service; see VidDay alternatives. If you have more than 30 colleagues, ask each person for one photo and keep the best 30, because extra photos beyond 30 stay out of the video.

How much does a farewell video cost?

$39 for up to 15 photos or $49 for up to 30 photos. Starting and watching the preview are free, and you pay once, after you have watched the video. Both formats are included. A team of ten splitting $49 pays $4.90 each. VidDay charges from $5 for a short video of clips (read October 20, 2026); see the cost comparison.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a farewell video for a coworker?

Post one link in a private team chat and ask each person for one or two photos with the colleague and a few words. A service turns them into one video that you show on the farewell call or at the party.

Does it work for a retirement party?

Yes. The steps are the same for a colleague who is leaving for a new job and for one who is retiring. Only the photos and the words change.

Does it work for teams in different time zones?

Yes. Everyone uses the same link at a time that suits them, so nobody has to join a call or record anything. People add a photo and a line in about a minute.

Do coworkers need an account?

No. At FromAll.gift guests open the link and add their photos, and if they like a short message with their name and portrait. There is no sign-up and no app. Only the organizer signs in, with Google or email.

How many people can take part?

The video holds up to 30 photos in total and needs at least 10. Every person can add several photos, so a team of 12 can take part with two photos each. For a larger group, ask each person for one photo and keep the best 30.

How long does the video take to build?

Up to 10 hours after you press “Make the video”. Allow two or three days for the team to reply, and a day for the preview.

Can people add spoken messages?

No. FromAll.gift makes a video from photos with short written messages and music. If your team wants to hear voices, use a service that collects video clips, such as VidDay or Tribute.

How do we keep it a surprise?

Share the link only in a private chat or channel that the colleague is not part of. Anyone who has the link can see the group’s photos.

What does it cost?

Starting and watching the preview are free. You pay once, after the preview: $39 for up to 15 photos or $49 for up to 30. A 16:9 version for the meeting screen and a 9:16 version for phones are included.

Ready to make it?

Add a few photos, send one link, and watch the video before you pay. Coworkers do not need to sign up, and nobody films a selfie video.

Sources and how we checked

The FromAll.gift details (photo counts, 40-character limit, price, timing, edit rules) come from our own service. The example video was made by a family for a mother’s birthday and is shown with their permission. What happened when the mother watched it is the account of the organizer’s family.
