Flowers last a week. This lasts for years. For Mothering Sunday, her children, grandchildren and family abroad each add a photo with Mum and a few words, and the photos become one professionally made video. The video above is our real example, made for a mother’s 65th birthday. Mothering Sunday 2027 is on 7 March.

A frame from the example video: an old colour photo of four adults and three children standing in front of a mountain stadium, the message “Remember how young we were...”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Anna”.

Everyone adds photos

What happens when the whole family sends a photo for Mum?

Mum sees her life told by the people she raised and the people she loves. Picture Sunday lunch: the plates are cleared, someone puts the video on the telly, and one photo after another appears. The seaside holiday, the first day at school, the kitchen where everybody gathered, each with a few words from the person who kept it.

  • On the telly after lunch
  • With the whole family
  • On Mothering Sunday
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old color photo of adults and children standing in front of a mountain stadium, the message “Remember how young we were...”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Anna”.
    Remember how young we were...Anna
  • A vertical frame from the example video: two women sitting together on a sofa in front of a bookshelf, the message “Love you, my dear!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Kate”.
    Love you, my dear!Kate
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old black-and-white photo of three women and a boy sitting in the grass, the message “Love you, sis!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Lilia”.
    Love you, sis!Lilia
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old black-and-white photo of a family group on a hillside, with two children and a baby, the message “Congrats! Miss you!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Emma”.
    Congrats! Miss you!Emma

These frames come from our example, a surprise for a mother’s 65th birthday. Eight people from three countries sent 19 photos in two days. She watched it at home on the TV with her family and kept stopping to remember where each photo was taken.

What if Mum’s children live in different cities or countries?

Then this is the easiest way to be in one place on the day. A son in Manchester, a daughter in Toronto and a cousin in Sydney can all open the same link, add a photo with Mum and type a few words. Nobody has to travel, film or meet online at the same time.

  • One link for everyone

Post it in the family chat and send it to the relatives who are not in it.

  • Any time zone

Each person adds their photo when it suits them, in about a minute.

  • One video on the day

Whoever is with Mum plays it on the telly. The rest get the phone version.

More ideas for families spread out across the map are in A family gift when everyone lives far apart.

Happy tears for everybody, memories forever.

Why does a video from everybody mean more than flowers?

Because each photo is a memory that only one person kept. Flowers and chocolates say “thank you” once. A video of photos from her children and grandchildren can be watched again on every visit, and each frame can show who remembered that moment.

A frame from the example video with three marks: the old colour photo of a family in front of a mountain stadium, the message “Remember how young we were...”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Anna”.
  1. A photo from the sender’s own archive. An old print photographed with a phone works well.
  2. A round portrait. It shows who the memory is from. It is optional.
  3. A few words. Up to 40 characters, typed by the sender: Mum, Mam or Mummy, as they write it.

Lines that fit the 40-character limit:

  • “Thank you for everything, Mum.”

  • “Best mum in the world!”

  • “Still the best Sunday roast.”

  • “You were right. As always.”

  • “Love you to the moon, Mum.”

  • “Miss your cuppa and a chat.”

More ideas are in What to write in a group video message.

Is there a version for phones, for the family who can’t be there?

Yes. From the same photos you get two videos: 16:9 for the telly and 9:16 for phones. Both are made at the same time and included in one price, so the relatives who live far away can watch on their phones the same morning.

  • 16:9 for the telly. Play it after Sunday lunch, on the big screen.
  • 9:16 for phones. It fills the screen. Send it to Mum and to the family chat.
  • One price for both. The same photos, words and music in each.

Who can add a photo to Mum’s video?

Anyone who has a photo with her, on a phone or in an old album. Her children and grandchildren come first, then her sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, old friends and neighbours. Each adds a photo and a few words, and a small round portrait can show who sent it.

  • neighbours
  • children
  • cousins
  • school friends
  • godchildren
  • in-laws
  • sisters and brothers
  • grandchildren
  • old colleagues
  • nieces and nephews
  • her friends
  • family friends
  • aunties
  • church friends
  • family abroad
  • childhood friends
  • book club
  • neighbours’ kids

Will they really do it? Isn’t it a lot to ask?

It takes about a minute: open the link, pick a photo, type a few words. There is no sign-up, no app and no selfie video, so it is an easy yes, even for the relatives who rarely answer the family chat. After adding a photo, each guest is asked who else should be in the video, so the chain grows on its own.

  • No selfie videos
  • No sign-up
  • No app
  • About a minute

Frequently asked questions

When is Mothering Sunday in 2027?

Sunday 7 March 2027. Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter Sunday, so the date moves every year. To have the video ready in time, start collecting photos by 25 February.

What is a good Mothering Sunday gift from the whole family?

A video made of photos from everyone who loves her. Her children, grandchildren, sisters and old friends each add a photo with Mum and a few words, and the photos become one professionally made video for the family to watch together.

Can family who live abroad join?

Yes. Everyone opens the same link from any country, adds a photo and a few words, and needs no sign-up and no app. In our example, eight people in three countries sent 19 photos in two days.

Will the video say Mum, not Mom?

The words in each frame are typed by the person who sent the photo, so they read exactly as written: Mum, Mam or Mummy. Our example video was made by a family who wrote “Mom”.

Do relatives have to record a video?

No. Guests add photos and a few typed words, never video clips. The small round portrait of each guest is optional too.

How much does it cost in pounds?

£35 for up to 15 photos or £45 for up to 30, paid once after the free preview. In the UK the checkout shows pounds; in other countries it shows US dollars or euros.

Is a week before Mothering Sunday too late?

A week is usually enough if the family answers quickly. In our example the photos arrived in two days, and the video takes up to 10 hours to build after you press “Make the video”.
