Half the family says “I’m not recording a video”? Then don’t ask them to. At FromAll.gift each person adds one or two photos and a few words, and the photos become one professionally made video. The video above is our real example: nobody in it filmed anything.

A frame from the example video: an old black-and-white photo of three women and a boy sitting in the grass, the message “Love you, sis!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Lilia”.

Why do so many people say no to a video message?

Because recording yourself is a big request. You need a quiet corner, good light and a few takes, and then you have to look into the lens and talk. Shy relatives, teenagers, grandparents and busy people put it off, and many never send anything at all.

  • Talking to a lens feels awkward
  • It takes several takes
  • So people quietly skip it

    Love you, sis!Lilia
  • A vertical frame from the example video: two women sitting together on a sofa in front of a bookshelf, the message “Love you, my dear!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Kate”.
    Love you, my dear!Kate
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old black-and-white family portrait of a woman, a small boy and a man, the message “And here I am!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Leo”.
    And here I am!Leo
  • A vertical frame from the example video: an old black-and-white photo of a family group on a hillside, with two children and a baby, the message “Congrats! Miss you!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Emma”.
    Congrats! Miss you!Emma

The frames above come from our example, a surprise for a mother’s 65th birthday. Eight people from three countries took part, and not one of them recorded a video. They sent photos from their own archives and a few words, and collecting 19 photos took two days.

A photo is an easy yes. Everyone already has one with the person, in a phone or in an old album.

What can camera-shy people send instead of a video?

A photo with the person and a few words. At FromAll.gift each guest adds one or two photos from their own archive and a line of up to 40 characters. Even the small round portrait of the guest is optional, so nobody has to show their face if they would rather not.

  • An old photo

A picture from years ago that nobody else has. A phone photo of a print works fine.

  • A few typed words

A memory, a nickname or a wish, up to 40 characters. Typed, not spoken.

  • A portrait, if they like

A small round photo of the sender shows who the memory is from. It is optional.

Happy tears for everybody, memories forever.

Does a video made only of photos still feel personal?

Yes, often more than a recorded greeting. Each frame shows a full photo, a few words in the sender’s own voice and a small round portrait, so the person knows exactly who remembered that moment. An old photo brings back a day they had almost forgotten, and that is what makes people stop the video.

A frame from the example video with three marks: the old photo of three women and a boy in the grass, the message “Love you, sis!”, and a round portrait labelled “Photo from Lilia”.
  1. A photo from the sender’s archive. The day, the place and the people, exactly as they were.
  2. A round portrait. It shows who sent the photo. Shy guests can leave it out.
  3. A few words. Up to 40 characters, typed once. No retakes.

In our example, one line simply reads “Love you, sis!”. It took a few seconds to type, and it needed no camera.

Video clips or photos: what do you lose, and what do you gain?

You lose voices and moving faces. You gain more people, because a photo takes a minute and nobody has to perform for a camera. Every frame also gets the same designed look, instead of clips with different light and sound.

Photos and a few words

  • About a minute for each guest
  • Old photos from before phones existed
  • One designed look for every frame
  • No voices: the warmth comes from the photo and the words

Video clips

  • You hear voices and see faces
  • Each guest has to record themselves
  • Light and sound change from clip to clip
  • Shy guests often never send one

If voices matter most and your group is happy on camera, a clip-based service is the better choice. VidDay alternatives compares them honestly, with prices and dates.

How do you invite a relative who hates being on camera?

Say it in the first line: just a photo, no video. People relax as soon as they know nobody will ask them to talk to a lens. The invitation that FromAll.gift writes for you already says “Just photos: no selfie video, no sign-up, about a minute”, so you can send it as it is.

  • Hi! 🎁 I’m making a surprise video for Dad from everyone’s photos, and I’d love you to be in it. Could you add photos with Dad (and a short line for each), ideally today? Just photos: no selfie video, no sign-up, about a minute. Know anyone else who should be in it? Pass the link on. Shh, it’s a secret!

What if they still hesitate?

Ask for one photo, not two. A single photo is the smallest possible yes. Suggest an old print: a phone photo of it, taken by a window without glare, is enough. And tell them the line under the photo can be three words long.

What should they write?

Something they would say out loud if they were in the room: a nickname, a memory, a thank-you. These fit the 40-character limit:

  • “Love you, sis!”

  • “Best summer of my life.”

  • “You taught me to swim.”

  • “Still my favorite person.”

  • “Thank you for everything.”

  • “Remember this day?”

Frequently asked questions

Can you make a group video gift if nobody wants to film themselves?

Yes. At FromAll.gift every guest adds one or two photos and a few words instead of a video clip. The photos become one professionally made video with music, in 16:9 for the TV and 9:16 for phones.

Do guests have to show their face?

No. Guests add photos with the person the gift is for. A small round portrait of the guest shows who sent each photo, and adding it is optional.

Do guests need an app or an account?

No. Guests open the link, choose photos and type a few words. There is no sign-up and no app to install, so it works for grandparents too.

What if a relative has no digital photos?

They can take a phone photo of a printed photo, in daylight and without glare. Old prints often become the frames people talk about most.

Can the video include voices?

No. FromAll.gift makes videos from photos and short written messages, with music. If hearing voices matters most, choose a service that collects video clips.

How many photos does the video need?

At least 10 photos in total and up to 30. The plan for up to 15 photos costs $39 and the plan for up to 30 photos costs $49. Each guest can add several photos.

How long does it take?

The video is built in up to 10 hours after you press “Make the video”. Give guests a few days to add their photos. You watch a free preview and pay once, after it.
